Nur Slim is a Mexican composer whose work moves between the concert hall and the world of children. She is a member of Mexico’s National System of Art Creators (SNCA, 2023–2026). She holds a degree in composition from the Escuela Superior de Música (INBAL), where she studied with José Luis Castillo, and a master’s degree in music education from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she is now a doctoral student in music cognition.

In 2025, the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico premiered her orchestral work Silencio Son at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, after it was selected through the orchestra’s Mexican Composers Reading Panel. Her music has been commissioned by the University of New Mexico, Bridges Musical Arts, and the Socorro High School Clarinet Choir, whose commission Estampillas premiered at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. Her works are published by Songburd Music and have been performed in Mexico, the United States, Cuba, Ecuador, Portugal, and Spain. Ensemble Dal Niente selected her piece Humming Between Branches for the Library of Congress.

2026 has brought three new recordings: her album Debo gritarlo al viento (Soundset Recordings), featuring vocalist Iraida Noriega with a chamber wind orchestra and jazz trio; the EP Los Cuatro Espíritus de la Creación; and two works on Black Noise Ensamble's album Microconciertos. Her music also appears on recordings by the Amity Trio and the Puerta-Vázquez Duo.

As composer-in-residence with the Amity Trio, she created the children’s opera Oliverso, now reimagined as a ballet with Indiana University dancers. She also wrote the music and scripts for Lucrecia the T-Rex, a 20-episode series produced for PBS.

Her project Animalezas Sonoras draws on neurodevelopment and the arts to invite children to compose, starting from a single sound. She has presented it at the Paris Conference on Education and at Indiana University, and published it in the journal Eufonía. She has also given master classes at the Jacobs School of Music, the University of Northern Colorado, and the University of New Mexico.

Before turning to concert music, she trained as a jazz guitarist and released three albums of her own songs on the Fonarte Latino label.
